video reflection Anh Do

This is a link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhGETRI81DE

This video was an interview with a refugee Anh Do. He wrote a book called the happiest refugee and a picture book version called the little refugee. He is the author of wired do as well as some other books. In the video he was talking about his journey as a refugee (that is what the little refugee and the happiest refugee).

Anh Do is from Vietnam. He lived in a 3 room house sheared with 14 people as a young child. Although this sounds bad he was Quite happy. There were other kids for him to play with so it wasn’t that bad (in his point of view). Him and around 30 others bought a boat and they started a travel to Australia. On the way they  encounters 2 pirate attacks (pirates found them and stole all valuables).

After the pirate encounters they saw another ship but this time it was a German cargo ship. Before they would help the Vietnamese they needed them to see them in danger. So Anh Do’s dad got an axe and hit the boat with it so the boat would start sinking and the Germans would help them. The Germans took them to Australia and they were all just so great-full that they were all alive.

Was the group of people scared about the situation they were in? I would have been if I was in that situation. Is Anh Do writing any other books at the moment? The Video and book (the little refugee) helped me get a bigger understanding about what it was like for the refuge Anh Do and his family (neighbors).

If there is anyone reading this and is interested in Anh Do’s story you should think about reading the happiest refugee and the little refugee.

Video reflection Federation

This is the video http://splash.abc.net.au/home#!/media/1961881/federation-explained

This video was about how Australia was made one whole country. Australia wasn’t always one happy country it used to be divided into 6 different countries with different laws and rules. Australia was owned by Great Britten until one day were they decided to become one country as a whole.

A couple years later from forming Australia they added in two new territory’s. (Northern territory and Australian capital territory). When Australia was becoming a country western Australia didn’t agree what they should come to gather as a country. Eventually western Australia joined as  a country.

Why did they create the two territory’s? How did they create the the two territory? This video gave me more understanding of federation and the sorts of things that happened back then.

video reflection convicts

This is the video convicts

Times were hard back then. There was all sorts of crimes that happen but most times it was a robbery or someone had stolen something. There were different punishments for these crimes some being a death sentence or things like being locked up in prisons.

Some thought that the convict in the colony had it better and so they committed crimes to have the life of convict in the colony. But people relied this and gave those hard punishments. This means things like chains. when you have the chains on you can’t stand up and you can hardly walk.

One person that this happen to got extremely sick his stomach blots, arms and legs swell and is taken to the prison hospital were the iron chains are removed. then 5 days later he died in agony. He appeared to be sick before the chains where on.

I wonder what time this was? It seems quite long ago and it don’t think these punishment would be aloud in these days. Also I wonder what the two boys were expecting as their punishment? This video helped me understand the punishments that they had back then and about people back then.

internet safety day reflection

Today was safe internet day and we did a webinar about digital footprints and privacy. This webinar involved 128 counties around the world. People on the internet may not always be who they seem. People can hack into your accounts and find out private information. If you are being cyber bulled you should tell a trusted adult, report/ block them and save the evidence. Some websites you can use are the kid’s helpline and esafety. It is good to have 5 or more older people you trust. We have rights to feel safe and secure, and all have the right to be private. We can’t tell who people are online all the time.
